Live-In Care in Hassocks

Need to arrange live-in care for your family member?

“People were truly respected and valued as individuals, and empowered as partners in their care.” — Care Quality Commission (CQC)

One dedicated carer, always in the home

Choosing live-in care in Hassocks is rarely a decision families make lightly. It usually comes after the worry has built up for too long, when an elderly parent or partner needs more day-to-day support than they used to, and live-in care lets them stay in a much-loved home at the foot of the South Downs, with the help they need under their own roof.

At Cheriton Homecare, we understand that feeling. Our founder and Registered Manager, Richard Barnett, spent 12 years caring for his grandfather Bill through Alzheimer’s before building a service around what mattered most to him: kindness, consistency, and treating each person as an individual.

As a CQC-regulated provider rated Outstanding in Caring, we offer fully managed live-in care from a team that stays personally involved from day one. Based in Sussex, we know the villages around Hassocks well, from Keymer and Clayton to Hurstpierpoint and Burgess Hill, and our office is always within easy reach.

"Staff are friendly and kind. Ready to go the extra mile to make sure your needs are met."

What families remember most about our care

Thoughtful help that makes each day feel more manageable

We shape our live-in support around the way your loved one already lives, not a rigid schedule imposed from the outside. That might mean keeping up a morning walk in Adastra Park, a regular trip to the High Street, or simply the everyday routines that make a day at home in Hassocks feel like their own.

Personal care

Discreet, respectful help with washing, dressing, continence and getting around the home, given at your loved one’s own pace so daily routines stay familiar and dignity is never in question.

Companionship

A friendly, consistent presence through the day: someone to talk to, share a meal or a hobby with, and to ease the isolation that living alone can bring.

Medication reminders

Gentle prompting to take the right medication at the right time, keeping to the schedule set by the GP and pharmacy so nothing is missed or doubled up.

Alzheimer's disease & dementia care

Calm, patient support built around familiar routines and one consistent carer, helping to ease the confusion and distress that change can bring for someone living with dementia.

Palliative care

Sensitive end-of-life support that lets your loved one stay in their own home, working alongside district nurses and the GP to keep them comfortable and at peace.

Household chores and assistance

Help keeping the home running, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and the weekly shop, so everyday tasks never become a burden.

Live-in care vs. 24-hour care: understanding what sets them apart

Live-in care and 24-hour care refer to the same type of support. One carer lives in your loved one’s home, helping throughout the day and taking a planned break overnight.

Visiting care involves several carers calling at scheduled times and suits clients who are largely independent but need some regular help with personal care, meals, or medication.

Hassocks grew up as a commuter village on the Brighton main line, and for many families that means adult children are working in London or Brighton through the day, unable to look in on a parent. Visiting care covers part of that gap with scheduled calls, but a live-in carer is there in the hours between them too, unhurried and on hand, which is why families who cannot always be nearby so often choose it.

What can families expect live-in care to cost?

Costs depend on the level of support your loved one needs and whether care is for one person or a couple. We are clear about pricing from the start.

  • Live-in care is charged weekly
  • Prices start from £1,190 per week for one person
  • Prices start from £1,476 per week for couples
  • Fees cover full-time, one-to-one support from a live-in carer

Depending on your loved one’s circumstances, live-in care can be self-funded or part-funded. Because Hassocks falls under West Sussex County Council, a needs assessment from their adult social care team is the usual route to any council funding, and some people also qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare or Attendance Allowance. We are always happy to talk you through which of these might apply to your family.

Why more families are choosing our team

Plenty of agencies can place a carer in a home. What families across Hassocks and Mid Sussex tell us sets us apart is how closely we stay involved: one small, named Sussex team looks after every client personally, and we are founder-led, not a national franchise routing you through a call centre.

What families in Hassocks often ask when home care becomes the next step

Yes. Live-in care is well suited to people whose needs are growing and who would benefit from having someone consistently present. We can arrange support quickly when it is needed most, including helping someone settle safely back at home after a stay in hospital, such as the Princess Royal in Haywards Heath.

Live-in care lets your loved one stay in their own home in Hassocks, with one dedicated carer, rather than moving into a care home and adjusting to an unfamiliar place and changing staff. They keep their own bed, their routines and their surroundings, with support shaped entirely around them.

Absolutely. A good live-in carer does things with your loved one rather than for them, stepping in only where help is genuinely needed so they keep doing what they still can for themselves.

Your loved one will need a spare room where the carer can sleep and take their breaks, alongside the usual home comforts. Beyond that, very little changes. The carer fits around the household and its routines, not the other way around.

Yes. Live-in care often works well for couples, letting two people stay together in their own home rather than being separated. Depending on what each person needs, one live-in carer can frequently support both, which also makes it more affordable per person.
