Live-In Care In Burgess Hill
Round-the-clock support, in the home you love
Cheriton Homecare provides full-time live-in care for older adults across Burgess Hill and the Mid Sussex villages between the South Downs and the High Weald, led by a founder with more than 30 years in care. A professional carer moves in with you and helps with daily life: personal care, cooking, medication, mobility, and companionship. You stay in your own home, with your routine and your independence intact.
We’re now rated Outstanding in Caring by the Care Quality Commission, and we hold a 9.8 review score from the families we’ve supported across West Sussex. Whether you’re recovering from a stay at the Princess Royal, helping a parent with dementia, or simply not ready to consider a residential home, we’ll help you figure out what’s actually right for your situation.
Why families across Burgess Hill trust us with their loved ones
Plenty of providers will send a carer. Fewer will sweat the detail of who that carer is and how they’re supported once they’re in the home.
- CQC-regulated and audited. Held to the regulator’s standards, not just our own.
- Carers we’d send to our own families. Enhanced DBS checks, references, face-to-face interviews, and a full induction before they ever step into a client’s home.
- You meet your carer before they move in. A detailed profile sent in advance, so there are no surprises on day one.
- Care plans that move with you. Built around your routine and updated whenever your needs change.
- Digital records and active management. Our office team reviews care logs and runs regular check-ins, so you’re never left to chase us.
- Cover sorted before you need it. Holidays, illness, sudden changes, urgent placements after a discharge: all planned for in advance.
Why families pick live-in care over a care home
Whether home is a flat off Church Road or a family house you’ve lived in for decades, live-in care lets you stay where life already makes sense. A care home, however well-run, is still a move out of your own life.
- You stay where you belong. Your kitchen, your garden, your bed. Familiar surroundings matter more in later life, not less.
- One carer, focused on you. In a care home, staff split their time across a corridor of residents. With live-in care, you have someone’s full attention.
- Life keeps going. Pets stay. Hobbies stay. The morning paper, the afternoon walk, the evening telly. Care fits around your life.
- Family come and go as they please. No visiting hours, no signing in at reception.
- A face you actually know. Same carer week after week, learning your routines and the way you take your tea.
Often better value than you’d think. A care home placement in West Sussex can match or exceed live-in care pricing, and for couples it’s almost always cheaper to stay put together.

What can live-in carers help with?
Anything that makes daily life work. Your plan covers exactly what you need and adapts as that changes.
- Personal care. Washing, dressing, continence care, and morning and evening routines.
- Meals and household tasks. Meal planning, cooking, light housework, laundry, and pet care.
- Medication and health monitoring. Reminders, dose timing, and tracking things like blood pressure or blood glucose.
- Mobility and getting out. Support around the house, a walk through St John’s Park, a coffee on Church Road, or trips to the GP.
- Companionship. Conversation, shared activities, and a real presence in the home.
Tell us what your day looks like, and we’ll shape the plan around it.
Here's what happens after you call
Most families call without knowing exactly what they need. That’s normal, and here’s how it works from there.
- The first call. Phone, callback, WhatsApp, or email, whichever’s easiest. We’ll talk through what’s going on and whether live-in care is the right fit.
- A home visit. Either Richard Barnett (our Registered Manager and Founder) or Nastasha, our Field Care Supervisor, will visit you in Burgess Hill to assess the home and build a care plan around your routine, not a template.
- Choosing your carer. Daisy, our Care Coordinator, shortlists carers who match your needs and personality. You see their profiles and have the final say. Nobody arrives sight unseen.
- Care begins. Your carer moves in, the plan goes live, and the first week is for settling in. Small adjustments are normal.
- Ongoing oversight. A dedicated case manager handles your care, with senior management monitoring the case managers themselves.
For a discharge or sudden change in circumstances, we can compress this timeline and have a carer in place within days.
What live-in care actually costs
Pricing depends on how much hands-on support is needed and whether care is for one person or a couple.
- From £1,190 a week for one person.
- From £1,476 a week for couples.
Live-in care can cost up to 30% less than a residential care home, and for couples staying together at home it’s almost always cheaper. We’ll quote your actual figure before you commit, with no surprise charges.
Funding your live-in care
We support both privately funded and publicly funded care, including:
- NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding
- Local authority or council-funded care packages
- Privately funded arrangements
We don’t provide the funding, but we’ll help you understand which routes you may qualify for and work alongside your social worker, NHS assessor, or council care manager. Ask us on the first call and we’ll point you in the right direction.
You don't have to figure this out alone
Arranging care for someone you love can feel like a lot, especially when you’re not sure exactly what’s needed yet. A quick chat is often the easiest way to make sense of your options. Reach out however suits you best, and we’ll take it from there.
Questions Burgess Hill families ask us most
Can my partner and I have live-in care together as a couple?
Yes. Couples care is usually far more cost-effective than two separate arrangements, and you get to stay together at home. The total price depends on each person’s care needs.
How quickly can live-in care start?
For urgent situations after a discharge or sudden change, often within a few days. Standard placements typically take one to two weeks so we can match you with the right carer.
What happens when my live-in carer takes a break or goes on holiday?
We arrange a cover carer in advance, and you’ll meet them beforehand wherever possible. Your support never lapses.
Do you provide live-in care for dementia or Parkinson's?
Yes. Our carers are trained in dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke recovery, and end-of-life care, with ongoing supervision from our head office team.
Can my live-in carer drive me to appointments?
Yes, if they hold a UK licence and you’re comfortable with it. Many of our carers drive, and we’ll match you with one if transport to GP visits, family, or local errands matters to you.
Cheriton Homecare give me peace of mind and I know my mum’s needs are met completely. My mum has developed a real connection and even love of her main carer who she has come to trust and rely upon. They bring a security to my mum and become not just carers but also a social network.
Shirley S (Daughter of Client)
Cheriton Homecare helped Mother stay in her own home and keep her independence. She could be difficult as her dementia progressed but nothing was too much trouble for Cheriton, her carers were kind and compassionate. She loved seeing the manager and another member of staff who always made a great fuss of her.
Lynda S (Daughter of Client)
Everyone at Cheriton Homecare exudes calm, confident professionalism with compassion and patience. I am so grateful for their support in providing care for my mother-in-law and being able to respond to a desperate situation so quickly.
H R (Daughter-in-law of Client)
Cheriton Homecare are very, very good. They are absolutely wonderful.
A C (Client)
The two carers (a main one and a holiday relief carer) have fitted in well, seen what needs to be done and quietly got on with it in a cheerful and calm manner. They are looking after both my parents. Having the Cheriton carers there gives the family peace of mind knowing Mum and Dad are being looked after well while allowing them to stay in their own home.
