Finding live-in care

What is live-in care in Camden?

Live-in care allows you to access the same level of care provided in care homes and sheltered housing, but with one distinct difference and advantage. Rather than downsizing and selling your home, you can remain in comfortable surroundings. We help to match live-in carers with clients in need of additional support, because of injury, illness, advanced age or cognitive decline.

The live-in carer can help with all aspects of daily life, ensuring you can live independently and with complete confidence that you are safe and cared for. This can be a great source of reassurance to family members who are struggling to provide care on their own, or who are caring from a distance.

Customised live-in care plans

How does live-in care work?

All of our live-in care arrangements are different, but we always start with a consultation to get to know you, your needs, and your limitations. This enables us to create a care plan and then match you with a carer. Your carer will be carefully selected, matching your needs to their skills and experience.

The carer occupies a spare room in your home and provides care according to a pre-agreed schedule. They will have regular breaks and downtime, so this is not the same as 24/7 care. It’s more like assisted living, where the carer only has to support one person. However, your carer will be in your home overnight, which can be reassuring if you have an emergency.

Meeting your needs

What can live-in carers help with?

Live-in carers are trained to provide the same kind of support you can expect from residential care. They assist with a wide range of personal and household tasks to enable you to live with dignity and independence while still remaining safe. Your live-in carer can also help provide much-needed companionship to help prevent loneliness.

Support could include household tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, food shopping, laundry and light housework. With larger properties, we recommend hiring a cleaner so that your carers time is not used up on home maintenance.

Live-in carers also help with personal tasks, including washing, dressing, grooming and hair care. It could also include continence care and catheter support, if required. And for those with medical concerns, your live-in carer can help to make sure you take the right medication on time, visit the GP, or monitor health conditions such as blood pressure or blood glucose levels.

In terms of companionship, your carer will be around for a cup of tea and a chat to help stave off isolation and loneliness. They will also assist you in staying connected to friends, family and your wider community by helping you to get out and about or host visitors.
