Live-in care is booming in popularity as individuals decide they don’t want to sell their homes, downsize, or move to an unfamiliar area in order to access care. We believe you should have the flexibility to be able to stay in your own home, while still accessing the care and support you need to live safely, independently and with dignity.

Finding live-in care

What is live-in care in the City of Westminster?

Live-in care is a popular alternative to care arrangements such as assisted living or a care home. Rather than sell your property and move to a small room in a shared facility, you can continue living in your own home. This means you can continue living with your family, stay close to your support system, and continue to keep beloved family pets.

With a live-in care arrangement, your family can have the peace of mind of knowing that someone is always available to assist you. You will have expert care delivered by a trained and compassionate individual. We are proud to have built a team of hard-working and supportive individuals ready to begin a placement in your home.

Meeting your needs

What can live-in carers help with?

We start with you and your unique needs when we create your care plan. We get to know each client and consult with their family and healthcare team to determine which areas they would most benefit from support. The purpose of live-in care is to enable you to continue living independently for as long as possible, so we’ll always work with you to ensure you can continue doing the tasks that make you feel independent while ensuring you can do so safely.

Live-in carers might help with the following tasks:

  • Personal care, including grooming, bathing and dressing.
  • Assisting with mobility, such as helping you to get in and out of bed, or helping you to get out and about in the community.
  • Continence care and catheter support.
  • Medical support, such as keeping track of medicine, monitoring health conditions and helping you to attend appointments with your GP.
  • Household tasks, including light housework, meal planning, food shopping, cooking, gardening and helping to care for pets.
  • Companionship to help prevent loneliness and support to stay connected with friends, family and your wider community.

A live-in carer doesn’t work around the clock but will be in your home in the event of a medical emergency or accident. They will typically work on a fixed schedule, allowing the carer plenty of time for breaks and downtime.

Your questions answered

Live-in care FAQs

No, live-in care is different to supported living as you will stay in your own home and a carer will move into your property. With supported living, you may need to sell your home and downsize to live in a much smaller property. There are also often restrictions on who can live with you, so you may be separated from your partner and family. And finally, you might not be able to bring pets with you. These are just some of the restrictions that make live-in care much more attractive.

Yes, light housework can be included in your care plan if this would be beneficial to you. If you have a very large property, it might be a good idea to hire an additional cleaner so that your live-in carer doesn’t use too many of their hours keeping the home clean.

Yes, a live-in carer will have their own room in your home and will sleep there at night. They are not considered to be “on call” at all times, but they will be there to support you if there is an emergency in the night.
